New Chair Rodger Young will lead Livingston Libertarians forward

July 17, 2013

Rodger Young was unanimously elected chairperson of the Livingston Libertarians

Long time Libertarian Rodger Young was unanimously elected new chairperson of the Livingston Libertarians at the July 11th social meeting.

Young, current political director for the Livingston Libertarians, has been united with the other officers during recent changes in leadership. He is known as a friendly, knowledgeable business person who is determined to lead the group forward.

Young also has a history of success as a candidate for the Livingston County Board of Commissioners, earning 25% of the vote in the last election.

Ending leadership turnover
Young’s election as chairperson will hopefully end a few months of leadership turnover for the Livingston Libertarians.

A few months ago, newly re-elected chairperson Pam Sanderson suddenly moved to Texas, leaving vice-chair Dan Goebel to assume Sanderson’s duties as chair.

Goebel presided over two social meetings and one business meeting. However, he has not attended any meetings since he was censured 14-4 by the general membership at the last social meeting he attended.

A new bylaw enacted at the July 10th business meeting allowed the chairperson position to be declared vacant and called for a special election by the general membership to vote for a new chairperson. Current bylaws of the Livingston Libertarians

Status of other Livingston Libertarian officers
A group of passionate board members support Rodger Young in his role as chairperson of the Livingston Libertarians.

A few months ago, James Weeks was elected new vice-chairperson when Dan Goebel moved up to replace Sanderson as chair.

While Weeks did preside over the meetings which Goebel did not attend, Weeks preferred to stay in the vice-chairperson role. He has a passion for bringing excellent speakers to the meetings, and the July 11th meeting featured a wonderful presentation about Peaceful Parenting, put on by Katie Testa and Dani Damman of the Michigan Peace and Liberty Coalition (MiPLC).

The other officers of the Livingston Libertarians include Jeff Wood as the Treasurer. The group at the social meeting decided that Wood should immediately open a new bank account with both Wood’s name and Rodger Young’s name on the account.

Longtime Libertarian Karl Kiefer remains the Livingston Libertarian’s Secretary.

Media Director Donna Gundle-Krieg will leave the Livingston Libertarian group before the next meeting. She moved away from the county several months ago, but stayed on to assist during leadership turnover.
