Michigan State University has reversed its decision and is now allowing a Libertarian speaker.

Thomas E. Woods, Jr., will be speaking at Michigan State University on December 4 at 7 pm. The speech will be in the Business College Complex, Room N130.

Woods is the New York Times bestselling author of 11 books, including Rollback: Repealing Big Government Before the Coming Fiscal Collapse.

The MSU College Libertarians were originally denied funding to bring Woods to speak on campus on the faulty basis that groups with “political agendas” were ineligible to receive student activity fee funding,

The group contacted the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) for help, and it worked.

“The right to engage in discussion of public affairs is one of the most fundamental freedoms the First Amendment has to offer. Nowhere is this more important than in our colleges and universities,” Robert Shibley, FIRE’s Senior Vice President, said.

“Luckily, MSU has remembered its obligations as a public university, and recognized the rightful place of the College Libertarians and other expressive groups in the marketplace of ideas.”

Woods is also the New York Times bestselling author of 11 books, including Rollback: Repealing Big Government Before the Coming Fiscal Collapse and Nullification: How to Resist Federal Tyranny in the 21st Century.
